One of the core philosophies at McCusker-Gill is that
everything that goes out our door should be prefabricated to
the fullest extent possible. We wholeheartedly believe in
the concept of moving labor hours from the unpredictable
jobsite environment to our own prefabrication shop, where we
believe we have much more control over efficiency and
safety. With this in mind, we have several project team
meetings prior to mobilization on any project, and
throughout construction, to painstakingly coordinate all of
the logistics required to optimize prefab / manifolding on
our projects.
McCusker-Gill uses STRATUS to manage our entire operation workflow
– from initial modeling in the BIM department through field testing
of installed systems. Our BIM lead is able to publish the Revit
model directly into STRATUS, a cloud-based software, where it
can be viewed by all project team members. From there, the foreman
is able to section his manifolds quickly and digitally, and that
information feeds directly into our shop prefabrication department.
All of our project teams are fully integrated in this workflow
from a single source of information.
In 2022, we completed construction of a 30,000 SF facility dedicated
to optimizing our prefabrication capabilities. All of the material
that is required for prefabrication on our projects is released
ahead of schedule and stored in this facility, where it is tagged
with a QR code and tracked within the STRATUS software.
Completed spool pieces are also QR coded and wrapped with a heavy
duty adhesive plastic cover. Ductwork is transported with the
help of mobile carts, which eliminate time at the loading dock
and can be moved easily on the jobsite while mitigating material
handling injuries.
